3 wheel pushchair
Whether you're seeking a buggy to jog with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver, even in tight places.
If you're looking for a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. They are prone, however, to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
The latest figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more flexible and simple to drive while still looking fashionable.
The general rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn as well as a 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.
Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. You'll want it to be big enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat, which lets your child face you, while other buggies only allow a face-to-parent one.
A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. It can be used as a one-person unit from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers up to age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness and large cushioned seat unit. The storage options are excellent too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets on the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - perfect for buggies that are off-road. Additionally, they allow you to maneuver the buggy through tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is particularly useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres, which allows them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures and you'll need to have a repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.
Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that, she says "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. The buggies also have suspension that Kath says "smooths out bumps very effectively".
Buggies with larger wheels may be quite large, and may struggle to fit into narrow spaces. This could be problematic if you intend to are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow while out and about. Most models come with small folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them more compactly.
Easy to manoeuvre
One of the major advantages to a three wheel buggy is that it is much more maneuverable particularly with a child on the way. The way they are built means that the front wheels rotate at a whim and are really easy to manoeuvre and are ideal for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks or bumpy pavements, as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler. she said: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate on uneven terrain. The swivel wheel front was particularly useful." I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when going downhill or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when your home is one of the cities. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeler might be a better option for you.
Bumper bar

Bumper bars can shield your child from scrapes and bumps when they are out and about. They are easy to put in place and will help your child feel secure and safe out and out and about.
This bumper bar is designed to match the sleek lines on the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller. It has a soft, cushioned surface that provides an ideal place for your child to grasp onto during walks. The sturdy construction and durable design ensure that your child will enjoy a stroll without fearing of falling out of the buggy or leaning too far in the direction of.
The sling's fabric is placed within the frame, not on top like the modular seat. This puts the center of gravity for your newborn at the right height and also delivers great weight distribution, making it easier to pop over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and over than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was great on grass and cobbles. It's also a good alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres and locking swivel wheels.
With a sophisticated and stylish design this bumper bar is sure to turn heads wherever you go. It's available in a variety of colours and finishes to fit your personal style. It features a simple, quick-release mechanism that makes it simple to install and remove the bumper bar whenever needed. The bumper bar is also easy to clean as it is constructed from durable materials. This makes it an excellent option for families seeking an elegant and safe stroller accessory.
Comfort
A 3-wheel buggy provides the highest level of maneuverability and performance when you go off road. With perfect geometry and weight distribution, this kind of buggy is able to turn on a dime and be a breeze to steer with just one hand; and all Mountain Buggies are tested to the same rigorous stability standards and tests as 4-wheel buggies.
The sport's clever design puts the sling seat made of fabric inside the frame, instead of on top like modular seats. This means it has a lower center of gravity which means it's more comfortable to push, has a lighter curb-pop (you won't need to exert as much effort to lift the buggy's front end over a curb) and provides better balance and stability. With 16" rear wheels, lockable front wheel, and tyres that are air-filled, you can enjoy an easier, more comfortable jogging.

And that's not the only reason you should love this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath was amazed by how big it is, too. There's a huge easily accessible basket that's surprisingly roomy for a buggy this small, plus there's a handy zipped pouch at the back of the seat unit and two smaller mesh pockets inside the hood for your keys and phone.
